Episode 59 – WIP Management

In this episode, the girls talk about their WIP management strategies. Susie questions how many buttons are too many buttons, and Danie works through her heel issues.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter to win a copy of the Twisted Sand Mitts pattern or the Triple Swell Hat pattern! Post in the contest thread on the Ravelry group and tell us where you see yourself wearing these lovely accessories, and we will randomly draw two lucky winners.

Current Projects

Susie knit her Water and Stone to the cuff, and so far everything is going according to plan. She also picked up stitches for the button side of the buttonband on her Chill Chaser Cardigan, and knit to the heel on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks. The more she knits the more she likes. She also cast on a new project – the Ozukuri Lace Shawl.

Danie got past the heel on her first Stitches Socks. She also finished the first of her worsted weight socks, minus the heel (which is an intentional afterthought), and finished the toe on the second one, and picked up the stitches for the first sleeve on her Mama Vertebrae.

Wear Report

Danie has darned her Dinna Fash Mittens. Despite how early the darning was needed, she adores them. They are wonderfully warm, and the yarn is holding up well aside from the thumb bits.

New to Me

Danie loves her Knit Picks crochet hook keychain, and Susie only wants to drink out of her Gnome Acres mugs.

Episode 49 – Timey-Wimey Knitting

In this episode, the girls talk about those projects defy the laws of time. Susie has no excuses for messing up armhole shaping, and Danie jumps right in to her spinning.

Listen here.

Current Projects

Susie had a son of a stitch with her Chill Chaser Cardigan. She inadvertently knit the armhole shaping on the edge of the right front. She also started a new hat, copying one Sarah from In a sKnit is designing.

Danie worked on her Broncos Socks, appropriately enough during the Broncos game. She also worked on her Chill Chaser Hoodie, and started spinning the baby alpaca/silk/camel blend she got at Iowa Sheep and Wool from Morning Sun Fiber Barn.

Wear Report

One of the TINY tea leaves cardigans has come to the end of its wear.

Episode 35 – Knitting PR

In this episode, the girls dissect knitting’s public relations issues. Danie discovers her gateway sock, and Susie wrestles with edge stitches.

Contest

The winner of the “If You Like It Then You Should Have Put a Label On It” contest is announced!

Current Projects

Danie made good progress on her Lintilla, and is zooming along on her Zigzagular Socks. She started spinning her Countess Ablaze fiber in the Ice Queen colorway, and it is pure magic.

Susie worked on her myriad shawls: TGV and Tan House Brook ShawlElizabeth is still in timeout, but will be picked up in the next week. She also casted on her Hitofude. She has had a few false starts, but will be casting on for what is hopefully the final, and successful, time.

Wear Report

Danie provided a report on the wear of one of the TINY tea leaves cardis.

Knits on Screen

Susie ranted about the fibery references on Suburgatory, and delighted in the one on Fargo.

Episode 33 – Open Mic Night

In this episode, anything goes. Susie worries about her sock-hoarding tendency, and Danie plans a reconstructive sock surgery.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter the “If You Like It Then You Should Have Put a Label On It” contest! Running through May 15, 2014, post your customized care instructions in the thread in the Ravelry group to enter a chance to win a set of labels from Mountain Street Arts.

Finished Projects

Haha! Just kidding!

Current Projects

Susie turned the heel and cruised through the gusset on the first of her (second pair of) Zigzagular Socks. She also worked on her 3/4 Hap Shawl, and her Elizabeth Shawl. After a son of stitch caused her to put it in a timeout, she’s decided to keep on keepin’ on with it.

Danie’s Lintilla didn’t grow a whole lot this past week, but she did cast on a pair of Zigzagular Socks of her own!

Future Projects

The girls discuss their Mother’s Day cast-ons some more, and are excited to have company this year!

Wear Report

Susie is sad to report that her Julia Socks sprung a hole. They are four years old, so it was probably about time given how much they’ve been worn.

Enhance the Stash

Susie received a belated birthday present of Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool Worsted in Violet. She also may have some special skeins coming in the upcoming weeks.

Project: Reconsideration

Danie has to reconsider her Starbrite Socks. They may require some not insignificant surgery. Eek!

Episode 29 – “Stranded” Knitting

In this episode, the Prairie Girls pretend to be stranded on a desert island.  Danie conquers fixing cables, and Susie wrangles alternating skeins.

Listen here.

Contest

Join the Prairie Girls in their game of “Would You Rather…?”! Post yours by March 31st 10:00 CDT.  in the contest thread in the Ravelry group to be included in a drawing for a beautiful Halcyarn bag.

Current Projects

Danie worked a little bit on her StarBrite socks, but focused mostly on her Miranda. She had a couple son of stitches moments, but she persevered and added a new tool to her knitting toolbox. She absolutely loves knitting with the Knit Picks Swish DK.

Susie started Grenadine with some deeply stashed Araucania Nature Wool Solids. After several false starts with alternating skeins, she zoomed through the back and has started the right front. She also turned the heel on her second Conwy sock, and started the second pattern section on the Elizabeth Shawl.

Wear Report

Danie reports the wear on the TINY tea leaves cardis she and Susie knit for her girls. It’s not good news, through no fault of the yarn.

Episode 20 – The Emotions Are Strong in This One

In this episode, the Prairie Girls share their holiday knitting wishlists. Danie knits with wiggling kittens, and Susie leads a WIP parade.

Listen here.

Podcasts mentioned include Stockinette Zombies and In a sKnit. Items mentioned on the girls’ holiday knitting wishlists include Knit Picks’ sock yarn blanks, Ply Magazine, Stanwood Needlecraft’s ball winder, and Signature needles.

Contest

The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest is underway! From now until January 5, 2014, post the project you consider to your most legendary of 2013 in the contest thread in the Ravelry group.

Current Projects

Danie got a little bit further on her StarBrite Socks, and made good progress on her Entangled Vines despite feeling like she wasn’t getting anywhere. She switched the stalled A NEW Family Christmas stocking to two circulars and is happier with it. She also started a new shawl, 22 Little Clouds, using the 100% alpaca yarn she dyed herself.

Susie is almost done with the first sleeve of her Hiro and already cast on the second’s cuff. She knit a bit on the second of her Zigzagular Socks and started a new shawl, Learning Curve using Maple Ridge Lace yarn, to lift her out of her slump. She also cast on Measure in Love hat using Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd’s Wool Worsted in Lilac.

Wear Report

Danie reported on her Kool-Aid Mittens she knit four-at-a-time. Unfortunately she could report on the wear of only one of the mittens. But it is holding up well, for a lone mitten.

New to Me

Danie listens to StarTalk Radio with her favorite astrophysicist.

Knits on Screen

Susie saw The Book Thief and the entire movie was pretty much a knits on screen. She highly recommends the movie for this, and also because it was a really good movie.

Episode 19 – Knitting Ennui

In this episode, the Prairie Girls talk about when their knitting slumps and how they get their mojo back. Susie emotes all over the place, and Danie hand-graphs a cable chart for naught.

Listen here.

Contest

The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest is underway! From now until January 5, 2014, post the project you consider to your most legendary of 2013 in the contest thread in the Ravelry group.

Finished Projects

Danie knit a Basic Man Beanie (no Ravelry project page at the time of publishing these shownotes!)  knit on US 7 /4.5mm in what may be Cascade 220 worsted in a graphite grey color.

Susie finished her Fleck hat out of Malabrigo Rios in the Vaa colorway, persevering through several son of a stitch moments involving the crown.

Current Projects

Susie worked a bit on her Hiro, had a son of a stitch finishing the toe of the first Zigzagular Socks, and knit a little on the second of her Transition Gloves.

Danie picked back up a Christmas stocking using the pattern A NEW Family Christmas. She also continued with her StarBrite Socks and her Lintilla, and made decent headway on her Entangled Vines. She has a bit of a son of the stitch on the sleeves, but it worked itself out.

Wear Report

Susie reported on the wear of the First Birthday Socks. All in all, they’re holding up really well.

Episode 9 – Sweaters and Stuff

In this episode, the Prairie Girls talk a lot about sweaters, and a little bit about other stuff. Danie has a sweater she finished in a hot minute, and Susie has one she’s plodding away on.

Listen here.

Contest

We want you to answer a burning question: If you were to knit socks for a celebrity, who would it be and why? To enter to win a skein of Malabrigo Rios in Archangel and a set of stitch markers handmade by Danie, please join our Ravelry group and post your answer in the contest thread. We’ll leave the thread open through September 29, 2013, and will announce the randomly-selected winner on that week’s podcast.

We also did a surprise drawing for reaching 100 members in our Ravelry group!

Events

The Nebraska Knit and Crochet Guild‘s annual retreat at Mahoney State Park is September 27 – 29. It’s finally close enough that the girls have thought about what they want to bring. Danie is still on the fence about whether or not to bring her wheel, but both girls agree that they want to bring simple, not-too-thought-provoking projects.

Finished Projects

Danie blinked last week and finished her Owl Sweater. It’s adorable (see above for proof).

Current Projects

Susie finished one of her Dragonfly Toddler Socks and got through the gusset decreases of the second one.  She is also working away on her Holloway Pullover. She had a brief freak out regarding her calculations accounting for her differing gauge and modifications based on her measurements, but confirmed her plan and is forging ahead.

Riding her sweater-finishing high, Danie started two new projects – Lintilla and $5 in Paris.

Wear Report

Susie reported on her pair of Sunshine socks she knit in June of 2009 out of Shibui Knits Sock, a 100% superwash merino sock yarn. She feels that they’ve held up well, all things considered.

Truth.

Susie does not baby her handknit socks. She secretly hopes that they will develop holes, so she doesn’t have to feel like a sock hoarder since the sock knitting is not stopping anytime soon.

Enhance the Stash

Danie was a responsible and scholarly stasher this past week and picked up The Gentle Art of Plying with Judith MacKenzie.

Susie was not so responsible. Since she was having her Camp Loopy bonus yarn sent to her (a skein of Lorna’s Laces Solemate in Blue Skies Over Colorado), she threw in a skein of The Loopy Ewe Solid Series in Cardinal.
