Episode 78 – Shawl Series 3: Multi-Color Shawls

In this episode, the girls chat about multi-colored shawls. Susie tries to get everyone drunk, and Danie says ‘Current Projects’ like a pro.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous things mentioned include Susie’s Bob & Weave sock pattern release (use code ‘3RDBDAY’ to get 33% off through October 9, 2015), Danie’s first and second Mama Vertebraes, and way too many multi-colored shawl patterns to link to. Please check out Susie’s queue and Danie’s favorites for patterns mentioned.

Events

One Twisted Tree will be at the Nebraska Knit & Crochet Guild’s Fall Retreat’s market at Mahoney State Park on Sunday, September 27, 2015.

Contest

To win a copy of the gorgeous Agatha Socks pattern by  the fantastic Claire of the NH Knits podcast, post in the thread on the Ravelry group.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Third Birthday Socks and they are a BIG hit! She also started and finished the pattern sample for her new shawl design the Hellebore Shawl.

Danie finished her Sugared Violets after a couple sons of a stitch. They were worth it though, because the finished shawl is stunning.

Current Projects

Susie is banging out her second Bang Whiz sock, and has reached the project’s tipping point. She also worked on her second Bob & Weave sock. She finished the body on her Peekaboo sweater and picked up the stitches for the first sleeve. It’s a little slow going because she’s magic-looping, and it’s not her favorite.

Danie worked a bit on her Featherweight Cardigan, and one her Stained Glass Sock Blanket. She also cast on Corrugated Box by von Hinterm Stein with One Twisted Tree Lavish in Shrewd Lady Mary.

New to Me

Susie has been enjoying a new-to-her audio podcast called The Sweet Georgia Show, hosted by Felicia Lo of Sweet Georgia Yarns.

Enhance the Stash

Danie celebrated her birthday by treating herself to a Single Shot bag from Kitchen Counter Crafter, an Oh! Loops fingering-weight skein in Mermaid’s Song, and a Lo-Lo bar.

Episode 75 – Shawl Series 1: Shape

In this episode, the girls talk about various shawl shapes. Danie knocks out two projects, and Susie can’t be mad at a picot bind-off.

Events

Stitches Midwest is in Schaumburg, IL August 6-9, 2015!

The first Prairie Girls’ meet-up will be at It’s Yours Pottery on September 19, 2015 at 1:00pm.

Finished Projects

Danie completed her Tour de Fleece and has finished handspun to show for it. She also completed her Mama Vertebrae, complete with sewing in grosgrain ribbon to stabilize the collar/front edges.

Susie finished her Dinner in the Eiffel Tower Shawl and Danie likes it! She really likes it!

Current Projects

Danie started a cotton top for Stitches, based on Petrie, using Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Marlin. Unfortunately she encountered a son of a stitch in the way of 36 extra stitches, so it will need to be restarted and may not be a Stitches top.

Susie continued knitting on her Ozukuri Lace Shawl. She is nearing the toe on her first Bang Whiz sock, and put in the heel on the first of her Fork in the Road Socks.

Episode 73 – For Real This Time

In this episode, the girls update their 2015 knitting plans. Susie comes down just barely on the wrong side of 500 yds, and Danie thinks some deep thoughts while knitting her sock yarn blanket.

Listen here.

Check out Stash Dash 2015, the Around Your Neck KAL, and the PalKal!

Finished Projects

Danie finished two more coozies!

Susie finished her Imagine When. She had the tiniest of a son of a stitch in that it finished just 4 yds shy of a second point for the Around Your Neck KAL. It brings her Stash Dash total to 3027 out of 5468 yds.

Current Projects

Susie knit just a little bit on her Fork in the Road socks, enough for another little son of  stitch by putting the heel in too early and having to rip back.  She also worked some on her Bang Whiz socks, and a lot on her no-longer-hibernating Ozukuri Lace Shawl.

Danie knit a bit on her Stained Glass Sock Blanket, until choosing colors stalled her progress. She also worked on her Sugared Violets and is so enjoying it’s simplicity, and she put a second sleeve on her Mama Vertebrae.

Episode 71 – IA Sheep & Wool 2015 Recap

In this episode, the girls chat about their wild and woolly weekend!

Listen here.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Dragonflies Jumper and everything about it is perfect – fit, color, everything! She also finished her Mother’s Day Cast-On 2015 project, her Birthstone Color Affection, and it didn’t turn out too twee at all. In fact, she loves it. Her current stash dash total is 2114 yds out of 5468.

Current Projects

Danie knit on her Mama Vertebrae, and after a slight hiccup on the sleeves, she’s making good progress. She also worked on her Stained Glass Sock Blanket.

Susie worked on her 3×1 Ribbed Socks and is closing in on the toe on the second one. She worked a little bit on her Fork in the Road Socks and her Aranami Shawl. She is in the midst of a son of a stitch with her Bonnie’s Wish in the form of not having enough yarn.

Enhance the Stash

Susie brought home with her yarn from Yarn Geek Fibers – a Rocketeer 5 Pack in The 8th Dimension and a single skein of Rocketeer in Cloud Smiles. She also picked up two skeins from Fiber Curio and Sundries.

Episode 68 – Prairie Girls Potpourri

In this episode, the girls talk about a variety of things with no formal topic in mind. Danie knits monogamously, and Susie unfurls a strategic plan.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous mentions include Lo-Lo Bars by Bar Maids,  Suburban Stitcher’s Around Your Neck KAL and Stash Dash (hosted by the Knit Girllls; this year’s thread in the Ravelry group has not yet been opened.). All WIPs mentioned as part of Susie’s Plan can be found in her Ravelry projects.

Events

The Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival is June 13 – 14, 2015 at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax, IA. The girls hope to see you there!

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Atlantic Current Socks, and she adores everything about these socks.

Current Projects

Danie knit monogamously on her Mama Vertebrae. She had a rather major son of a stitch in which she knit the armholes a couple inches longer than she needed to.

Susie started her next curl, Gridelin, using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport in Baltic Heather, as well as an Aranami Shawl using Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering from a kit she got at Stitches Midwest 2014. She also knit a bit on her 3×1 Ribbed Socks.

Future Projects

Susie will be casting on a Color Affection for her Mother’s Day Cast-On, and Danie is considering two different projects. The for-sure one is a sock yarn blanket.

Project Reconsideration

Danie reconsidered her Spectra in favor of a sweater, Soft Stones.

Episode 63 – The Whys and Wherefores of Patterned Socks

In this episode, the girls discuss all things patterned sock. Susie wonders if her new hat makes her head look fat, and Danie is dainty (but only when she knits on itty bitty circs).

Miscellaneous patterns mentioned include the Zigzagular Socks and the Bayerische Socks.

Listen here.

Finished Projects

In the space of the week since the last episode, Susie started and finished a Rikke hat.

Current Projects

Susie knit a bit more on her Dragonflies Jumper until a needle snafu sidelined the project. She had a minor son of a stitch on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks in that she did a couple too many gusset decreases and had to tink. She got that straight and is zooming towards the toe decreases. She also picked up her Bonnie’s Wish, and will work on getting over some nit-pickiness.

With her limited knitting time this week, Danie worked some on her 60 Stitch Skyp Socks. She also put in two different heels into her Dude Socks to check to see which heel fits best.

Episode 60 – Knit Down to Stash Down

In this episode, the girls talk about stashing down. Susie finishes two sweaters, one little and one big, and Danie finishes some epic socks and a sweater.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter to win a copy of the Static Zing sock pattern! Post in the contest thread in the Ravelry group and tell us what yarn (or yarns!) you would use to knit these awesome socks, and we will randomly draw two lucky winners.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Chill Chaser Cardigan, and is happy with her many modifications. She also finished her Water and Stone and it is everything she hoped it would be, despite a son of a stitch at the end.

Danie finished her epic Stitches Socks, finally finding a heel she is happy with. She also finished her Mama Vertebrae and it is fabulously flattering and showcases her geeky t-shirts nicely.

Current Projects

Susie worked on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks, and knit through the heel turn on the first one using Danie’s suggestion of knitting a regular heel flap using the other end of the ball of yarn to minimize the disruption in the gradient across the instep. She also started her next curl, Cerise, and had another son of a stitch getting started with it but is cruising on it now.

Danie worked on her worsted weight socks, and on her Swirl E Rainbow Socks. She also put a few rows on her Featherweight Cardigan, and started a gorgeous pair of socks for Dianne of the Suburban Stitcher‘s Rainbowalong.

Episode 57 – WIPs-apalooza

In this episode, the girls talk a lot about knitting (surprise!). Danie makes a pompom in spite of her strong feelings about them, and Susie may never have a finished project again at the rate she’s casting new ones on.

Listen here.

Contest

The 2014 Legend-Prairie contest is running through January 7, 2015! Tell us about your most legend-prairie project of the year!

Finished Projects

Danie finished a pair of mittens that she worked up on the fly, and a Barley hat with a fabulous pompom.

Current Projects

Susie worked a little on her Conjunction Cowl, and on her Water and Stone. She knit through the heel and the gusset decreases on her John Huston socks, despite questioning the purpose of patterned heels although she can’t deny it looks good. She cast on her first of many curls Caesious using Spark Story Bounce in Spectra, Bonnie’s Wish using Malabrigo Arroyo in Borrajas, and Monkey socks using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock Multi in Rainbow. And finally, a son of stitch in the form of an afterthought heel stalled the progress on her Electric Rainbow Friendship socks, but Danie talks her through her thought process and she is backing away from ripping out entirely.

Danie worked on her Mama Vertebrae, and just has to be convinced to go ahead and knit the sleeves which Susie tried to do, on her Swirl E Rainbow Socks, and on another pair of kid mittens. She stalled a bit on her My First Stitches Socks due to heel issues. Undeterred, she will continue working on determining the number of heel stitches so they fit perfectly. After a little break.

Stash Enhancement

Danie enhanced her stash with some lovelies from a local dyer The Dyeing Arts – Splendiferious Sock in Bifrost Bridge and some silk hankies.

Susie scored her first MarigoldJen in her BFL/Nylon base in Merry and Bright. And she EARNED a sweater’s quantity of madelinetosh tosh sport in Tart.

Review

Susie received her pre-order of Curls by Hunter Hammersen. Both girls are super impressed with the book. The designs are interesting, and the versatility as to the yarn options is a huge plus.

Episode 50 – Coming Clean About Washing Knits

In this episode, the girls come clean about washing their knits. Susie over-thinks and over-dramatizes about sleeves, and Danie switches up her sock-knitting technique.

Listen here.

Events

Contest

The winners of the Chill Chaser patterns, and the winner of Danie’s Triangle Thumb Toddler Mitten pattern, are announced!

Current Projects

Susie rebounded with her Chill Chaser Cardigan, finishing the back, reknitting the right front, and seaming the shoulders. She’s been strategizing on the sleeves, and thinks she’s settled on a course of action, after changing her mind at least a couple times. In her second son of a stitch in as many weeks, she restarted her Bright Sunshiney Hat because it seemed very loose. She went down a couple needle sizes for the ribbing and reduced the number of stitches and she is much happier with the fit.

Danie worked on  her Chill Chaser Hoodie, and may have overshot the armholes because her measuring tape was out of reach. She also started a fabulous new pair of socks! Rather than her usual two-at-a-time MO, she’s knitting them in parallel using 8″ circular needles. She also cast on the first of three football hats she’s knitting for family.

Future Projects

Susie swatched for Overlynd using the yarn she re-purposed from her Providence Hoodie she reconsidered in Episode 26.

Enhance the Stash

Susie got a gorgeous one-of-a-kind skein from SparkStory that she’s going to use to knit some fabulous birthday socks. Spoiler alert: there is more stash enhancement to come.

Danie celebrated her birthday the best possible way – with stash enhancement! She add Bijou Basin Himalayan Trail in Fergus, Manic Pixie Dream Yarn Norma in Cloudy with a Chance of Rainbows, and Little Mount Yarn Co. Glitter Sock in Exploding Tardis to her stash. She also scored her first bag from Suburban Stitcher.

Episode 49 – Timey-Wimey Knitting

In this episode, the girls talk about those projects defy the laws of time. Susie has no excuses for messing up armhole shaping, and Danie jumps right in to her spinning.

Listen here.

Danie is also giving away a copy of her pattern! To enter to win, please be a member of the PGK&S Ravelry group, and post in the contest thread telling us which two colors you’d knit the mittens in.

Current Projects

Susie had a son of a stitch with her Chill Chaser Cardigan. She inadvertently knit the armhole shaping on the edge of the right front. She also started a new hat, copying one Sarah from In a sKnit is designing.

Danie worked on her Broncos Socks, appropriately enough during the Broncos game. She also worked on her Chill Chaser Hoodie, and started spinning the baby alpaca/silk/camel blend she got at Iowa Sheep and Wool from Morning Sun Fiber Barn.

Wear Report

One of the TINY tea leaves cardigans has come to the end of its wear.
