Join the Prairie Girls on Team Sasquatch for the 2014 Ravellenic Games! Danie is knitting the Middlefield Pullover, and Susie the Ahoy! Matey.

Current Projects/2014 Ravellenics Recap

Susie completed the knitting on her Ahoy Matey! or The Pirate Pullover, but has stalled  on the seaming. She’s not crazy about how her seams are looking in seed stitch, but Danie assured her they are just fine. She is planning on plowing through it in the next evening or so, and move on to the buttons. After finishing the knitting, she thought she could let herself enjoy a little knitting on her Conwy socks. They are being relegated back in to hiding, though, so she finishes her Ravellenics project in time.

Danie finished the body and most of the first sleeve on her Middlefield Pullover. She had to recalculate and dramatically change the waist shaping, but this sweater will suit her perfectly so it was well worth the time and effort. She also had to re-do the sleeves a few times to get a fit she is happy with, but with the first one nearing completion she is hopeful the next sleeve will fly by.

 Future Projects

Susie has allowed herself to start thinking about knitting after the Ravellenics, and is considering the options for some Araucania Nature Wool Solids from deep in her stash. She has narrowed the choices down to Dark and Stormy, Pumpkin Ale, Brandied Cherry, or Grenadine.

Enhance the Stash

Susie got two skeins of Wollemeise Pure 100% Merino Superwash in Ein Klein Wenig Verrucht for her birthday!

New to Me

Inspired by listener HeatherBrum’s Grow Old with Joeby sweater project, Susie ordered labels from Mountain Street Arts on Etsy. They haven’t arrived quite yet, but is already very impressed with their customer service.

Both Prairie Girls are enjoying a new audio podcast, ACTually KNITting.

Current Projects

Danie worked on her Wrapped in Leaves shawl but feels like she didn’t make a lot of progress. Conversely, her  StarBrite Socks now have a fair amount of leg.

Susie finished the first of her Conwy socks. She decided to go for it, and did the contrast toe “plus” in leftover red sock yarn.

Project Reconsideration

Susie is reconsidering her Providence Hoodie (correction: designed by Melissa LaBarre). Looking at it again, she thinks she going to reconsider reconsidering it, and may hang on to it.

2014 Ravellenics Recap

Susie finished the front of her Ahoy Matey! or The Pirate Pullover. She needs to finish the first sleeve by the end of the week to get to the halfway point, and she feels comfortable with that pace.

Danie is feeling good about her progress on her Middlefield Pullover, despite her ease concerns. She has separated for the sleeves, and is pleased by the fit so far.

New to Me

Susie got a fabulous new project yarn from Halcyarn. It is her perfect project bag, and she loves it.

Knits on Screen

Danie discussed the pros and cons of the knitting seen at the 2014 Olympics.

Episode 21 – The Prairie Girls ‘Cast Again!

Miscellaneous projects mentioned include Susie’s Kiku, Ten Stitch TwistDamask, and Hesperia Stole, and Danie’s Color Genesis shawl (Find a Penny) , Twisted Little Raglan, and Slither Socks.

Patterns mentioned include the Sugar Bear Hooded Cardi, the Learning Curve shawl, the OMG Heel Socks, and the Fish Lips Kiss Heel.

Contest

The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest winners are announced!

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Measure in Love hat, and has worn it just about every day since.

Danie finished replacement mittens for the original Kool-Aid mittens that were lost. She also finished her Entangled Vines cardigan, complete with grosgrain ribbon on both bands – button and buttonhole. Amazing!

Current Projects

Danie is almost to the heels on her StarBrite Socks and is considering trying a heel of her own construction. She also worked a bit on her 22 Little Clouds and Lintilla.

Susie is nearing the finish line on her Zigzagular Socks. She had a major son of a stitch with her Hiro, by finishing the entire sweater and realizing she knit it for a much larger person. She ripped it all out, saving the sleeves, and will reknit a smaller size. She needed a knitting win, and so cast on for a second Measure in Love using her beloved Malabrigo Rios in Azules.

Future Projects

Join the Prairie Girls on Team Sasquatch for the 2014 Ravellenic Games!

Danie is considering the Middlefield Pullover using Malabrigo Arroyo in the familiar Plomo colorway for the games. She is also thinking of using the reclaimed yarn from her Twisted Raglan sweater for a Wrapped in Leaves shawl.

Susie is committing to a toddler sweater for her Ravellenics’ project, but is still deciding between Ahoy! Matey using Plymouth Yarns Galway in a heathered sage or Fat Kitty (with the Bear option) using Cascade 220 Superwash in Army Green and (light) Brown.

Enhance the Stash

Susie enhanced her stash with the aforementioned  Cascade 220 Superwash in Army Green and Puget Sound, Plymouth Yarns Galway in a heathered sage, Malabrigo Rios in Azules. She also picked up a skein of Dream in Color Smooshy in Black Pearl.

Danie had a very good Christmas, and enhanced her stash with the previously mentioned Malabrigo Arroyo in Plomo. She also acquired Knit Picks Stroll Tonal in Thunderhead and Deep Waters, Plymouth Yarn Company Happy Feet in a green-and-purple variegation, and Patons Kroy Sock FX in a green/teal colorway. She has coming to her a sweater quantity of Knit Picks Swish, some fingering weight and some laceweight.

New to Me

Both girls are listening to and greatly enjoying the Knitting Butterflies podcast.

Knits on Screen

Susie was re-watching the Wizard of Oz and noticed Auntie Em is holding knitting in the scene where Ms. Gulch comes to take Toto away.

In a much more timely movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Danie was just as mesmerized by Gandalf’s mitts as she was in the first one. She also spotted a fair-isle knitted coat on Season 4 Episode 1 of Downton Abbey.

Episode 20 – The Emotions Are Strong in This One

In this episode, the Prairie Girls share their holiday knitting wishlists. Danie knits with wiggling kittens, and Susie leads a WIP parade.

Listen here.

Podcasts mentioned include Stockinette Zombies and In a sKnit. Items mentioned on the girls’ holiday knitting wishlists include Knit Picks’ sock yarn blanks, Ply Magazine, Stanwood Needlecraft’s ball winder, and Signature needles.

Contest

The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest is underway! From now until January 5, 2014, post the project you consider to your most legendary of 2013 in the contest thread in the Ravelry group.

Current Projects

Danie got a little bit further on her StarBrite Socks, and made good progress on her Entangled Vines despite feeling like she wasn’t getting anywhere. She switched the stalled A NEW Family Christmas stocking to two circulars and is happier with it. She also started a new shawl, 22 Little Clouds, using the 100% alpaca yarn she dyed herself.

Susie is almost done with the first sleeve of her Hiro and already cast on the second’s cuff. She knit a bit on the second of her Zigzagular Socks and started a new shawl, Learning Curve using Maple Ridge Lace yarn, to lift her out of her slump. She also cast on Measure in Love hat using Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd’s Wool Worsted in Lilac.

Wear Report

Danie reported on her Kool-Aid Mittens she knit four-at-a-time. Unfortunately she could report on the wear of only one of the mittens. But it is holding up well, for a lone mitten.

New to Me

Danie listens to StarTalk Radio with her favorite astrophysicist.

Knits on Screen

Susie saw The Book Thief and the entire movie was pretty much a knits on screen. She highly recommends the movie for this, and also because it was a really good movie.

Episode 18 – Magnum Opus

In this episode, the Prairie Girls dream about their magnum opus knitting projects. Danie finishes four mittens with strange-looking but very functional thumbs, and Susie has a yarn-related revelation.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous patterns mentioned include Oak Trail, In Dreams, and Celestarium.

Contest

The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest is underway! From now until January 5, 2014, post the project you consider to your most legendary of 2013 in the contest thread in the Ravelry group. The third of three prizes was announced – a skein of Simply Socks Yarn Company Poste Yarn, Striping in Garden District.

Finished Projects

Both Susie and Danie finished the knitting on their TINY tea leaves cardis for Danie’s girls.

Danie also finished her four-at-a-time Kool-Aid Mittens.

Current Projects

Susie started a hat of her own design, and knit at least one round on her Zigzagular Socks, but probably not many more than that.

Danie picked her Lintilla back up for some therapeutic knitting, and her StarBrite Socks for some cheery knitting. She also swatched, and then cast on for, an Entangled Vines cardigan.

Future Projects

Both girls are started thinking about their 2014 Ravellenic Games projects. Susie is deciding between a toddler sweater and husband socks. Danie is considering socks.

Project Reconsideration

Danie is reconsidering her A Twisted Little Raglan for something that will work better with the drape and growing-tendency of alpaca. Something like Wrapped in Leaves.

Enhance the Stash

Susie acquired two skeins of Malabrigo Rios in Vaa.

New to Me

Susie is a feminist history buff with an affinity for NYC and has been listening to two new-to-her history podcasts The History Chicks and The Bowery Boys.

Truth.

Susie doesn’t do Christmas knitting. At all.

Episode 15 -Flattery Will Get You Everywhere

In this episode, the Prairie Girls talk about things that flatter. Susie didn’t finish a project, and Danie dyes.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous projects and patterns mentioned include Danie’s A Twisted Little Raglan, Susie’s Damask, Hiro by Julia Farwell-Clay, TGV by Susan Ashcroft, the Elizabeth Shawl by Dee O’Keefe , and the Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig.

Events

Danie will be attending a dyeing class Saturday, November 9th at Tonya’s Cute by Design.

Contest

The girls are very excited to announce the first annual “Legend-Prairie” contest! From now until December 31, 2013, post the project you consider to your most legendary of 2013 in the contest thread in the Ravelry group.

Current Projects

Susie cut in the first heel on her Mother’s Day socks. She also started socks of her own design using The Dyeing Arts Old Hippies colorway in their Splendiferous Sock base. In another new project, she started a Minnesnowta hat in retina-searing shade of orange (details in a later segment). She also finished Holloway‘s second sleeve, seamed it in, and started on the collar.

Danie worked on her magical Lintilla. She also adjusted her StarBrite Socks to a lower stitch count and finds the fit a lot more to her liking. She also started a new pair of kids’ socks. So far it hasn’t been the most enjoyable of projects, but she’s knitting on. What is an enjoyable is her Malabrigo Nube in Plomo spinning project.

Enhance the Stash

Susie bumped up the timeline on her bribery yarn and enhanced her stash with a skein of Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd’s Wool Worsted in Orange and a sweater’s quantity of Cascade 220 in grey, purple and two shades of blue.

Unhance the Stash

Sadly, a yarn-related catastrophe eliminated some yarn from Susie’s stash. She has received approval for replacing those skeins, but is remaining committed to The Plan and is considering rolling it in to her December reward.

It’s New to Me

Danie got the urge to dye, and dye she did. Using Gail Callahan’s Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece as her guide, she turned a special skein of natural yarn into a beautiful tonal green.
