Contest
The 2013 Legend-Prairie contest winners are announced!
Finished Projects
Susie finished her Measure in Love hat, and has worn it just about every day since.
Danie finished replacement mittens for the original Kool-Aid mittens that were lost. She also finished her Entangled Vines cardigan, complete with grosgrain ribbon on both bands – button and buttonhole. Amazing!
Current Projects
Danie is almost to the heels on her StarBrite Socks and is considering trying a heel of her own construction. She also worked a bit on her 22 Little Clouds and Lintilla.
Susie is nearing the finish line on her Zigzagular Socks. She had a major son of a stitch with her Hiro, by finishing the entire sweater and realizing she knit it for a much larger person. She ripped it all out, saving the sleeves, and will reknit a smaller size. She needed a knitting win, and so cast on for a second Measure in Love using her beloved Malabrigo Rios in Azules.
Future Projects
Join the Prairie Girls on Team Sasquatch for the 2014 Ravellenic Games!
Danie is considering the Middlefield Pullover using Malabrigo Arroyo in the familiar Plomo colorway for the games. She is also thinking of using the reclaimed yarn from her Twisted Raglan sweater for a Wrapped in Leaves shawl.
Susie is committing to a toddler sweater for her Ravellenics’ project, but is still deciding between Ahoy! Matey using Plymouth Yarns Galway in a heathered sage or Fat Kitty (with the Bear option) using Cascade 220 Superwash in Army Green and (light) Brown.
Enhance the Stash
Susie enhanced her stash with the aforementioned Cascade 220 Superwash in Army Green and Puget Sound, Plymouth Yarns Galway in a heathered sage, Malabrigo Rios in Azules. She also picked up a skein of Dream in Color Smooshy in Black Pearl.
Danie had a very good Christmas, and enhanced her stash with the previously mentioned Malabrigo Arroyo in Plomo. She also acquired Knit Picks Stroll Tonal in Thunderhead and Deep Waters, Plymouth Yarn Company Happy Feet in a green-and-purple variegation, and Patons Kroy Sock FX in a green/teal colorway. She has coming to her a sweater quantity of Knit Picks Swish, some fingering weight and some laceweight.
New to Me
Both girls are listening to and greatly enjoying the Knitting Butterflies podcast.
Knits on Screen
Susie was re-watching the Wizard of Oz and noticed Auntie Em is holding knitting in the scene where Ms. Gulch comes to take Toto away.
In a much more timely movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Danie was just as mesmerized by Gandalf’s mitts as she was in the first one. She also spotted a fair-isle knitted coat on Season 4 Episode 1 of Downton Abbey.
