Episode 14 – Knitting Roots

In this episode, the Prairie Girls get back to their knitting roots. Susie gets giddy over Holloway, and Danie pulls off another feat of blink-and-it’s-done knitting.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous projects and patterns mentioned include Susie’s Gramps Cardigan (actually started after her son was born, not finished before and is from Tot Toppers by Kate Oates) and Rusted Root from Zephyr Style by Sarah Moore).

Finished Projects

Danie finished not only her Copper Socks, she also knit Mini Copper Socks in less than 24-hours. Both recipients were suitably excited and adorable in their matching socks.

Current Projects

Susie’s Mother’s Day Socks are all done but for the heels. She also went nuts on her Holloway Pullover this week, finishing and setting in the first sleeve.

Danie used her Lintilla for knitting therapy, and it worked. She also started socks using The Dyeing Arts Lush in Prism. It was described as Care Bear-rainbow poop, but in the best possible way.

Episode 13 – Let’s Talk About Socks, Baby

In this episode, the Prairie Girls have an off-the-cuff conversation about socks. Susie confuses Holloway with Lintilla, and Danie self-soothes with her sock yarn babies.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous projects mentioned include Danie’s First Toe Up Socks and Susie’s Basic Socks and Julia Socks.

Finished Projects

Danie finished her Slither Socks, after a son of stitch resulting in a little sock surgery.

Current Projects

Danie worked a bit on her Copper Socks, and discovered her Lintilla has a magically replenishing ball of yarn attached to it.

Susie worked a little on her Mother’s Day Socks and finished the front of her Holloway Pullover. In a son of a stitch, she decided to frog the massive sleeve she started and cast on again several sizes smaller. She also started her Transition Gloves. Keeping with the “ridiculously huge” theme of her knitting week, frogged the first attempt and began again with smaller needles.

Project: Reconsideration

Danie has reconsidered her $5 in Paris in favor of two Tiny Tea Leaves Cardigans.

Enhance the Stash

Danie’s sock yarn stash was enhanced by skein of Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock in Tea Party.

Unhance the Stash

Danie helped Susie work through a moral dilemma involving The Plan and how close she is to the next level of Loopy Rewards.

Knits on Screen

Susie spied a yarn-filled moment on last week’s New Girl, when Nick holds up an enormous cone of yarn and asks Jess if she’s knitting a mansion.

Truth.

Susie has issues with the number 13.

Episode 12 – Project: Reconsideration

In this episode, the Prairie Girls have second thoughts about a couple of their projects. Susie stays strong in the face of pretty yarn and Danie reveals her knitting super power.

Listen here.

Miscellaneous patterns mentioned include Maluka, Rossbeg, and Kerrera For Kids.

Finished Projects

Danie finished her Feel-Good Trifecta Cowl. And she does, after having a minor self-described rant and rave over her attempt at seaming. She got a little help from a friend at knit night and grafted it instead and it looks lovely. She also finished a Max’s Staircase Tam using the yarn the girls received as part of the Nebraska Knit and Crochet Guild’s 2013 Fall Retreat goody bag.

Susie finished the First Birthday Socks, and they were very appropriately worn at the first birthday party.

Current Projects

Susie started the front of her Holloway Pullover. She’s clipping along at a fairly good pace, but is finding it somewhat slower going than the back. She also had a slight son of a stitch with her TGV that may turn out to not be a son of a stitch after all.

Danie worked on her Serpentine Socks, but just barely. She worked a lot on Lintilla, because she was in a potato-chippy kind of knitting place this past week. Her $5 in Paris threw her another son of a stitch, but hers was for real. She did fit in a little bit of spinning in to her week.

Project: Reconsideration

Susie is reconsidering her Effortless Cardigan. She has sentimental attachment to the idea of the project more so than the project itself, but is coming to terms with the fact that the thing is just too big.

Danie is beginning to reconsider her $5 in Paris, but is not making any hasty decisions.

Enhance the Stash

Danie picked up a couple skeins of Patons Kroy Socks FX, one each of Celestial Colors and Blue Stripes Rag.

Unhance the Stash

In an update so small it’s almost not an update all, Susie dug up the Shibui Knits Sock that she’ll use for her Transition Gloves to serve as a little motivation when her Holloway Pullover becomes a slog.

Truth.

Danie knits awesomely ridiculous hats.

Episode 11 – Things Just Got Real

In this episode, the Prairie Girls coin the phrase “unhancing the stash”. Susie explains her strategy, and Danie slips in some spinning content at just about the last minute.

Listen here.

Patterns mentioned outside of the project segments include the Transition Gloves and A Collection of Three Christmas Stockings.

Current Projects

Danie worked on a myriad of projects, including Dreambird and Lintilla. She cast on her personal Feel-Good Trifecta, which is the Easy Cable Cowl from One + One:  Scarfs, Shrugs & Shawls for the Stitched Together Crafting Library KAL. With all the projects it’s no wonder she ran into a couple son of a stitch moments. The first was on her Copper Socks, when she discovered she dropped no fewer than six stitches when putting in the waste yarn for the afterthought heels. The second was on her $5 in Paris, when she forgot a raglan increase in a potentially not-so-not-noticeable spot.

Susie finished the back of her Holloway Pullover but didn’t immediately cast on for the front because she got a wild hair about knitting birthday socks for her son.  She is improvising the pattern using a cable from The Harmony Guides Cables and Arans. She is knitting the feet a little longer, because the Dragonfly Toddler Socks ended up being just a bit too short.

At the end of the episode, Danie quickly mentioned the spinning that she did with Malabrigo Nube in Plomo.

Future Projects

The girls each received a skein of Cascade Soft Spun in their Nebraska Knit and Crochet Guild‘s 2013 Fall Retreat goody bags and Danie found a couple patterns she’s considering for hers. One was a pattern received also in the goody bag, the Darkside Cowl. The other is Meret, although she does not generally consider herself to be a hat person despite knitting many and quickly.

Unhance the Stash

Susie explains the goal/reward system she’s set up for herself, and Danie humors her since she doesn’t have a problem knitting from her stash.

Knits on Screen

Danie was watching an old episode of Grey’s Anatomy and was delighted to watch an episode where Izzy was knitting sweater pieces to swap with Meredith’s so she’d feel accomplished.

When watching the series premier of The Goldbergs, Susie (or really her husband) caught the knitting reference when the son was having a heart-to-heart with his father about his over-protective mother.

Episode 10 – It’s Mostly About the Yarn, Really

In this episode, the Prairie Girls’ planned retreat review got hi-jacked by yarn talk. Susie had a moment when revealing who she would knit socks for, and Danie recounted how she skipped around the retreat’s market.

Listen here.

Contest

The winner of the celebrity socks contest was announced!

Current Projects

Danie focused on her Lintilla, but not so much that she didn’t have to tink back a couple rows.  She also had a minor son of a stitch with her $5 in Paris. Pro tip: short rows and stripes do not mix.

Susie ripped back many inches on her Holloway Pullover, but since she was happy to do it she didn’t call it a son of a stitch. She also started a TGV (High Speed Knitting) as her retreat project.

Enhance the Stash

Susie managed to fall down pre-treat and scored a skein of String Theory Colorworks’ Continuum Self-Striping in Trifolium. At the retreat’s market, she got a skein of The Dyeing Arts Splendiferous Sock in Old Hippies and one of Busy Mind Designs‘ The Standard bag in a garden gnome print.

Danie won the market, coming home with a skein of Lazy Bee Yarns sock yarn in Silver Linings and cleaning up at The Dyeing Arts with a skein of Splendiferous Sock in Saxon Gold and both silk fiber as well as Lush in Prism.  She also got one of The Standard bags from Busy Mind Designs in a comic book print.
