Episode 64 – Prairie Girls Freestyle

In this episode, the girls freestyle a variety of knitting-related segments. Danie works through more heel-related issues, and Susie liberates a long-languishing sock.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter to win a skein of yarn from One Twisted Tree by posting in the contest thread telling the girls if you were a flower, what kind of flower would you be? The thread will be open through April 8, 2015.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks!

Current Projects

Danie started a second Mama Vertebrae using One Twisted Tree Lavish in Miss Fisher’s Pearl Handled Pistol, and worked on her 60 Stitch Skyp Socks. She also restarted one of her Dude Socks in the quest of a heel that fits right and that she can stand to knit repeatedly.

Susie worked on her scrap blanket as a sort of palate cleanser, after finishing the body of her Dragonflies Jumper. She also cast on a new pair of Swirl E. Socks using Knitterly Things Vesper Yarn in Junebug, and worked more on her Bonnie’s Wish.

Project Reconsideration

Susie reconsiders her John Huston, the Tarnished Hero socks. The intricate pattern coupled with the plain brown yarn has caused her to avoid the project for awhile, and talking through it with Danie allowed her to make the final decision.

Review

Susie reviews her new Signature Needle Arts convertible circular needle.

New to Me

Susie is ecstatic with her first Suburban Stitcher bag!

Episode 63 – The Whys and Wherefores of Patterned Socks

In this episode, the girls discuss all things patterned sock. Susie wonders if her new hat makes her head look fat, and Danie is dainty (but only when she knits on itty bitty circs).

Miscellaneous patterns mentioned include the Zigzagular Socks and the Bayerische Socks.

Listen here.

Finished Projects

In the space of the week since the last episode, Susie started and finished a Rikke hat.

Current Projects

Susie knit a bit more on her Dragonflies Jumper until a needle snafu sidelined the project. She had a minor son of a stitch on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks in that she did a couple too many gusset decreases and had to tink. She got that straight and is zooming towards the toe decreases. She also picked up her Bonnie’s Wish, and will work on getting over some nit-pickiness.

With her limited knitting time this week, Danie worked some on her 60 Stitch Skyp Socks. She also put in two different heels into her Dude Socks to check to see which heel fits best.

Episode 62 – Chitter Chatter

In this episode, the girls chit chat with no specific topic in mind. Susie flings a shawl, and Danie casts on socks that are a departure for her.

Listen here.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Cerise! It’s definitely on the shorter side, which she expected, but she’s finding it pretty easy to style.

Current Projects

Danie worked on her Dude Socks and they are zooming along. She also cast on a pair of Simple Skyp Socks she is modifying to her preferred stitch count out of Mountain Colors Crazyfoot in Ruby River.

Susie knit on her Dragonflies Jumper and after an initial worry about yarn, she thinks she’s going to be ok. She closing in on the heel of the second of her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks.

Enhance the Stash

Susie made a much anticipated stash enhancement with a purchase from Ladybug Fiber Company with two skeins of her 400 Fingering 100% Merino in Sapphire and Tourmaline for this year’s Mother’s Day Cast-On.

Future Projects

Because there are never enough shawls on the needles, Susie is planning an Outlander Shawl using stashed yarn.

Project Reconsideration

Danie reconsidered her Lintilla. She adores the pattern and the yarn, but maybe not so much together. She’s considering the Narcissa Socks.

Truth.

Susie’s new old house is not haunted. There was no real worry about this, but she feels better for having proven it not to be.

Episode 61 – Stashing Publicly

In this episode, the girls talk about how they keep (or don’t keep) track of their stash. Susie has limited knitting time, and Danie finishes socks.

Listen here.

Contest

The lucky winners of the Static Zing contest were announced!

Finished Projects

Danie finished two pairs of socks for the Suburban Stitcher‘s Rainbowalong! Both pairs use the Fish Lips Kiss heel, and she loves the fit.

Current Projects

Susie finished the first of her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks, and is cruising down the leg of the second one. She also knit on her Cerise, and has reached the tipping point where the rows are getting longer and the yarn is going faster, and on her Dragonflies Pullover. She is jumping around in the pattern to make the most out of the yardage. She knit a little way down the body, knit the neck, knit one sleeve and is now working on the body again.

Danie kept with her sock theme started a pair of Dude Socks. She very practically is knitting them in a way so that if they somehow don’t fit her husband, they should fit her.

Review

Danie went to an Erlbacher Gearhart sock knitting machine demonstration, and found it fascinating.

Episode 60 – Knit Down to Stash Down

In this episode, the girls talk about stashing down. Susie finishes two sweaters, one little and one big, and Danie finishes some epic socks and a sweater.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter to win a copy of the Static Zing sock pattern! Post in the contest thread in the Ravelry group and tell us what yarn (or yarns!) you would use to knit these awesome socks, and we will randomly draw two lucky winners.

Finished Projects

Susie finished her Chill Chaser Cardigan, and is happy with her many modifications. She also finished her Water and Stone and it is everything she hoped it would be, despite a son of a stitch at the end.

Danie finished her epic Stitches Socks, finally finding a heel she is happy with. She also finished her Mama Vertebrae and it is fabulously flattering and showcases her geeky t-shirts nicely.

Current Projects

Susie worked on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks, and knit through the heel turn on the first one using Danie’s suggestion of knitting a regular heel flap using the other end of the ball of yarn to minimize the disruption in the gradient across the instep. She also started her next curl, Cerise, and had another son of a stitch getting started with it but is cruising on it now.

Danie worked on her worsted weight socks, and on her Swirl E Rainbow Socks. She also put a few rows on her Featherweight Cardigan, and started a gorgeous pair of socks for Dianne of the Suburban Stitcher‘s Rainbowalong.

Episode 59 – WIP Management

In this episode, the girls talk about their WIP management strategies. Susie questions how many buttons are too many buttons, and Danie works through her heel issues.

Listen here.

Contest

Enter to win a copy of the Twisted Sand Mitts pattern or the Triple Swell Hat pattern! Post in the contest thread on the Ravelry group and tell us where you see yourself wearing these lovely accessories, and we will randomly draw two lucky winners.

Current Projects

Susie knit her Water and Stone to the cuff, and so far everything is going according to plan. She also picked up stitches for the button side of the buttonband on her Chill Chaser Cardigan, and knit to the heel on her Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks. The more she knits the more she likes. She also cast on a new project – the Ozukuri Lace Shawl.

Danie got past the heel on her first Stitches Socks. She also finished the first of her worsted weight socks, minus the heel (which is an intentional afterthought), and finished the toe on the second one, and picked up the stitches for the first sleeve on her Mama Vertebrae.

Wear Report

Danie has darned her Dinna Fash Mittens. Despite how early the darning was needed, she adores them. They are wonderfully warm, and the yarn is holding up well aside from the thumb bits.

New to Me

Danie loves her Knit Picks crochet hook keychain, and Susie only wants to drink out of her Gnome Acres mugs.

Episode 58 – 2015 Knitting Plans

In this episode, the girls talk about their knitting plans for the year. Danie kept a narrow knitting focus over the break, and Susie knit on all the things.

Listen here.

Contest

The winners of the 2014 Legend-Prairie are announced!

Enter to win a copy of the Twisted Sand Mitts pattern or the Triple Swell Hat pattern! Post in the contest thread on the Ravelry group and tell us where you see yourself wearing these lovely accessories, and we will randomly draw two lucky winners.

Finished Projects

Danie finished another pair of mittens and another Barley hat with a pompom. They are out of some fun yarn she dyed herself, that look like a funfetti cupcake in yarn form.

Susie finished her first curl, Caesious. It’s beautiful, and she’s working through the usual style issues she has with shawls. She also finished her second Conjunction Cowl and has been wearing it pretty much non-stop. Also finished are the Monkey gift socks, after a couple of minor hiccups along the way.

Current Projects

Danie made progress on her Featherweight Cardigan. She is nearing the end of the body, but that’s relative when it’s a fingering weight sweater. She also worked on her Stitches Socks, and after ripping out the heel four times she settled one and is pressing on. She also just cast on a pair of worsted weight socks for herself.

In a succinct rundown, Susie worked on her Chill Chaser Cardigan, Water and Stone, Bonnie’s Wish, and Electric Rainbow Friendship Socks. She also started a new sweater, Dragonflies Jumper.

2015 Knitting Plans

Susie plans on WIP cracking and stash culling.

Danie plans on knitting with MadTosh, finishing three sweaters, knitting three ‘brown bag’ socks, and taking two of her hoarded Craftsy classes.

Episode 57 – WIPs-apalooza

In this episode, the girls talk a lot about knitting (surprise!). Danie makes a pompom in spite of her strong feelings about them, and Susie may never have a finished project again at the rate she’s casting new ones on.

Listen here.

Contest

The 2014 Legend-Prairie contest is running through January 7, 2015! Tell us about your most legend-prairie project of the year!

Finished Projects

Danie finished a pair of mittens that she worked up on the fly, and a Barley hat with a fabulous pompom.

Current Projects

Susie worked a little on her Conjunction Cowl, and on her Water and Stone. She knit through the heel and the gusset decreases on her John Huston socks, despite questioning the purpose of patterned heels although she can’t deny it looks good. She cast on her first of many curls Caesious using Spark Story Bounce in Spectra, Bonnie’s Wish using Malabrigo Arroyo in Borrajas, and Monkey socks using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock Multi in Rainbow. And finally, a son of stitch in the form of an afterthought heel stalled the progress on her Electric Rainbow Friendship socks, but Danie talks her through her thought process and she is backing away from ripping out entirely.

Danie worked on her Mama Vertebrae, and just has to be convinced to go ahead and knit the sleeves which Susie tried to do, on her Swirl E Rainbow Socks, and on another pair of kid mittens. She stalled a bit on her My First Stitches Socks due to heel issues. Undeterred, she will continue working on determining the number of heel stitches so they fit perfectly. After a little break.

Stash Enhancement

Danie enhanced her stash with some lovelies from a local dyer The Dyeing Arts – Splendiferious Sock in Bifrost Bridge and some silk hankies.

Susie scored her first MarigoldJen in her BFL/Nylon base in Merry and Bright. And she EARNED a sweater’s quantity of madelinetosh tosh sport in Tart.

Review

Susie received her pre-order of Curls by Hunter Hammersen. Both girls are super impressed with the book. The designs are interesting, and the versatility as to the yarn options is a huge plus.

Episode 56 – KAL Considerations

In this episode, the girls talk about knitalongs. Susie blames it on the Nyquil, and Danie puts black eyeliner on rainbows.

Listen here.

She started a new pair of socks, her Swirling Rainbow Socks, out of fabulous yarn she dyed herself. She also worked on her Mama Vertebrae, and started another pair of kid mittens.

Susie worked on her Water and Stone, and she’s past the bust shaping and is cruising down the body. She also worked on her Conjunction Cowl and John Huston socks. She too cast on a new pair of socks, using the amazing electric rainbow yarn Danie dyed.

Episode 55 – The Variegated Predicament

In this episode, the girls talk about their strategies for using variegated yarn. Susie declares sport is the new sock for her, and Danie concentrates on her sweater.

Listen here.

Danie worked on her My First Stitches Socks, and is planning to do Cat Bordhi’s Sweet Tomato Heel. She also worked on her Mama Vertebrae.
